    Need help with Internet Connection

Im running windstream high speed internet

Through a belkin n+ b60648 wireless router, and supplied windstream modem.

Previously was connected to a HP laptop and HP Desktop

Now Connected to two dell laptops (dell wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI card)

All computers have had the same problem.

Problem: Randomly I loose internet connection, It is still "connected" but will not pull up new pages or refresh and says I have lost internet connection. I then have to disable and reable the connection through the toolbar and it works again for a while (sometimes hours, sometimes minutes).

Router and laptops still show connectivity when the problem occurs.

    Help!

    What do I do?

I have replaced the original router thinking this was the problem.

When hardwired directly to the the router the problem does not occur.

Get rid of Windstream. But you are probably like me, they have you by the gonads because they are your only hi-speed option.

Have the same problem with them. Just wait until you are calling to reset your router every 60 days.......

Did I mention I hate windstream

Sorry just re-read your post. I saw "Windstream" and my blood began to boil and I got tunnel vision.

Sounds like you are beginning to experience intermitten issues with your router. I have just come to accept this as part of "wifi" Both my work wireless router (a belkin) & my home wireless router (linksys) do this off and on. I can't figure it out either.

How often is it doing it and when it happens, are you rebooting your router and/or internet modem?

I have to reboot both when disable, enable doesnt work.

As far as when it does it, seems like whenever it wants to!

Yes Windstream is the only option here.

and the router that was replaced was a linksys, that worked fine on another carrier before we moved.

I use a Belkin router but I don't remember the number. It loses connection a couple of times a week and I reboot it and the modem but unplugging/plugging them.

My old Linksys did the same thing but about half as often.

A couple times a week would be AWESOME!

Im talking about once or twice an hour at its worse.

Some times I can go a couple hours, those are nice.

Just happened again, when trying to post this.

Disabled it and enabled it to start this thread and had to do it again now.

Said it had been 33 minutes.

check for updated drivers for the wireless cards off of dell's website, drivers, look up the service tag for each laptop and find the specific driver for that card.

oddly enough, I had a problem with mine on my laptop, after many hours of dealing with a similar issue, digging and digging, I came across some information to use a driver for a desktop that utilized the same wireless chipset instead of the one for the laptop...worked better....since it's an intel wireless, they have their proprietary software...once I started using windows to control the thing, I don't have as many issues with it.....only way I found that info was to dig around on dell's customer forums for a while....

might try going into network connections, right click the connection in question, select properties, click the configure button, click power management tab, see if you have 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' selected, if so, unselect it.

I have dealt with this a couple of time. Take the Belkin route, insert firmly in a trash can, and replace with either a D-Link or Netgear. Your problem with be solved.

It's Windstream. I hate it but I don't have a choice. I had the exact same problem, I mean exact. My wife did something and it works flawlessly now. I'll have to ask her when she gets home.

just remembered, some of these cards have pms and don't like to work on certain channels....can't recall off the top of my head, either channel 6 or 11, it liked one and not the other...everything else in the house didn't care...might also look into the encryption you're using as well......you have the ability to pick between different channels and encryption...might try different combinations....belkin may in fact suck, but the problems I had were on linksys/cisco and a netgear with a different laptop......

Another thing you might look at, and don't laugh, is if you have a microwave or something running at the same time you lose your connection that has the same frequency. Here at the shop, I had to go move the stupid microwave to the other end of the place because the receptionist would nuke lunch and BAM! My internet went out till she was done. Sunshine has some great ideas and I would 2nd that opinion, but check out the interference too.
