so here's the story...
100% native deer, with absolutely no introduced genetics. He was caught when the ranch was still low fence, and put into a MLD pen when he was 4 or 5. mcmullen county. as far as him being "tame", apparently he didn't get the memo... even in a 10 acre DMP pen, it's hard to watch him.
The point is.... just because you see a deer with ear tags doesn't mean he's "hand fed. un natural, steroid pumped, etc, etc".
a couple points...
this deer will never (most likely) be shot.
he's going to live as long as he can humping as many does as possible.
we should all be so lucky

Does the rancher give him antibiotics and worm him?
If he's in only 10 acres, obviously he's getting all the feed he will eat, year-round.

DMP pens aren't like the typical breeding pens. there are specific dates the deer can be in the pens,
