Just found out I get to Go Hunt Kansas Not sure if I can though?

I just found out that my good buddy who goes to school at Kansas State Has access to some land that we can hunt opening morning of rifle season. It is private land. My question is can I get a permit to hunt. I looked at Kansas parks and wildlife but did not quite understand. Does anybody know what i need to do.

You would have to find out what rifle unit the land is in you are hunting and then if it is one of the units with leftover rifle tags or not. Other than that you would have to find a landowner tag for the unit to buy and transfer into your name which can be costly depending on what landowner wants tag for.

Unit 6, 9, 10, and 11 have nonresident rifle permits left last I knew and you can buy them online.

$322 for the license and then another $72 +/- for the state hunting license. I think the doe tags are another $21 or so.

Check ebay for landowner transferable buck tags. The price will be inflated, but if you can hunt the land for free, you might find a deal.

Find out what firearm unit you would be hunting and call 1-800-918-2877. If they have extra tags you can buy it over the phone with a credit card.
Looks like next year the eastern part of the State will have over the counter rifle tags. Archery tags still have to be drawn.

I'm sitting here reading a copy of KDWP Magazine and a copy of the Kansas Bowhunters Association magazine and that's how I read things.
Unlimited rifle OTC tags resident and Non-Resident. I don't know where the boundry line is in describing the Eastern part of the State. Archery will surely follow some day, at least you would think.

how could they justify rifles over bow over the counter, ive hunted chautauqua cnty since 2001 rifle season up there is a war. bow should be otc and draw rifle if they have any concern about the deer herd. just my opinion . wade

I'm not sure that Kansas has ever sold all of their rifle tags. There are usually quite a number left over. The biggest factor is having a place to use it. So, why have a drawing that didn't work in the first place.
I don't quite follow the archery tags being on a drawing basis either. Non-residents still have no advantage without a place to use the tag. Seems to be the same difference to me.
