It's very very rare for a hog to just decide to charge. How many people have been charged in an open field, for no reason? But, if a hog feels threatened and doesn't see another avenue of escape, besides through you, they'll run at you; and all you gotta do is jump out of the way. It's not like they're gonna choose to stick around and 'teach you a lesson!' lol! Heck, if you get a deer cornered it'll charge at you; but how many people talk about being scared of a deer?
I hunt hogs on the ground all the time and I stalk them (bow) in the dark and and shoot them as close as 6ft away and I've only been run at 1-2 times! Sure, it's an adrenaline rush, but it's not something to be "scared" of!!
I say, if you're scared of hogs, YOU LOSE YOUR MAN CARD!

Last November while I was on my way back to the ranch house. I had a group of pigs run across the road diagonally in front of me. I put my atv in high gear trying to head them off. I got up to a fence line, grabbed my bow and started walking down the fence.
I notice several pigs darting in and out of salt ceders across the fence. I thought to myself dang it they beat me to it.
They where about 30 yards away, so I kept creeping throught the mesquites hoping one would come back across.
I heard feet pounding the earth, limbs cracking and grunting coming from my left. Well there was one pig that didn't make it across and it was headed straight for me.
I drew my bow back and anchored, the pig stopped at 15 yards and lowered it's head.
Thwack the pig takes off running with my arrow sticking straight up in the air.
My favorite hunt to date.
