    gas or diesel

Looking for new to me truck. 3/4 ton crew cab with front bench, and long bed 4x4. With these features which engine would be the best?
Thank you. I do prefer the Ford line up, but will entertain all opinions.

That is why I asked, Berto. Need to weigh the cost vs benefits. Never had a diesel so have to gather info.

cost vs benefits.....Are you going to regularly tow a heavy load?

That would really be the only benefit to diesel.

This question has a lot things that you have not listed that needto be considered. How often will you drive the vehicle, how often will you tow anything of weight, extra cost of the truck up front, price of fuel, and cost of repairs. If you are buying new then the warrant covers cost of repairs for now. If you are buying used then consider that general repairs run 1500 to 2000 very easily. Little things cost a lot on a diesel.

Diesels will get better gas mileage than any gasoline with engine modifications plus diesels will last a lot longer. If it were my choice I'd go 5.9L Cummins.

I have an 03 Chevy 3/4 ton, 4x4 diesel with the crew cab and long bed and I love it. It gets better mileage than my old 1/2 ton ext cab gas guzzler and will haul anything I want it to.

Like others have said, if you really need it for towing or whatever it may be then yes diesel is the way to go. If you will hardly use it and just want one then weigh the options on gas vs. diesel.

I personally dont tow heavy on a regular basis but I like the longevity factor of driving a diesel. Fixing em does get pricey though!

How long are you gonna keep it? Over 10 years go diesel.

I wear out vehicles. My current ride is an 01 Expedition with 120k miles on it. Hard to haul more than the kids with it though.

I bought a diesel and have never looked back. I have an 06' duramax and it runs and tows like a dream. There is no power comparison between the two. Diesel will get better gas milage but it is also more expensive. The diesel motors will last forever but the downside is repairs are not cheap for anything. It all comes down to what you want/need in a truck

It will depend on how much and what you are going to tow. If you are pulling a goose neck with heavy loads I would suggest the deisel. If you are just pulling small trailers or boats then it won't matter. The deisel engine will cost more up front. When I got my 08 Dodge it was an extra $6500 to get the cummins engine and I just couldn't justify that. Deisel will be more expensive per gallon, but you will get better mileage out of the deisel. My gas megacab gets 11-14mpg. A deisel might get 16-20.

I understand the older diesels do get great gas mileage. But the new ones dont get jack crap compared to the older ones IMO.

7.3 ford escursion gets around 20mpg

2010 chevy 3500 dually ill be lucky to get 15 on the high side. I can literally watch the gas gauge move as i drive. But it pulls like a dream
