The compressor doesn't really tickle my fancy. SBR 556 guns don't really offer anything IMO. SBR needs to be a heavier slower projectile since it is a cqb weapon.

bueller?
guess I could just call
here's a question:
If you were just getting into the Class 3 game as I am, and don't have unlimited funds...what sould be the best bang for your buck? (no pun...sort of)
1) Ruger Mark II/III with Spectre can (got stuff to trade for the pistol) so $$ goes for just the can and stamp
OR...just a .22 Bolt action, chopped to 16"...same can (quieter)
Applications: straight out fun, cheap to shoot, cheapest to get into, coon irradication
2) 300BLK Barrel for my encore and a can for that (no clue what those cost, but I imagine they're up there).
Applications: super duper quiet with no moving parts (seen video of one...yikes), hog irradication, 2nd cheapest
3) Start building the SBR I want, take my time, start with the lower and piece it together...noveske barrel, etc until a next summer or so I've built and saved up enough to finish it. (this is the least likely funds wise with a baby due in 4.5 months).
Applications: Hogs...in greater numbers, Mexiterrestrials at the ranch (i.e. self defense from drug runners...there are more and more on cams on our place), fun, fun and more fun plinking.

gracias!!
we like to have fun during deer season, but shooting up the night killing coons at feeders is something we prefer not to do. We have a small place (sub 200 ac) and though the deer always come back...the times that we've gone out and laid waste to the coon populationhave resulted in a lack of deer sightings the next couple of days.
so...to combat that...suppressed .22 with subsonic loads. a Mark II would be easy to pack around, very accurate, and a lot of fun to shoot. Plus I can do some horsetrading for the pistol itself, so all I have to worry about funding is the can and the stamp.

My buddy is currently considering his first NFA item just like you. My first purchase was a 30cal can so I can put it on any weapon smaller than 300 win mag. My suggestion for my friend was to purchase a "multi" marked lower and get it registered for SBR. If you get the SBR registered in multi there are several caliber choices to choose from (22lr,223,6.8,300blk) with just one stamp. Also, it lets you build your rifle a little at a time as funds are available with the stuff you want on it. I've been looking at 22 cans lately and I think I have decided on the element by AAC, my second choice is the stainless sparrow from silencerco.
I'm not sure how an SBR stamp would work if you used it on a thompsons center. Does it work like the AR-15 where the receiver is the stamped part or is each individual stamped? Anyone know?Last edited by stxhunter; 04-02-2011, 04:21 PM.

No need to sbr a tc. A 16" barrel on a tc is under 30" overall length.
IMO, encores and contenders are a waste for sbr or any NFA use such as cans. At minimum a complete upgraded tc gun will cost more and be less accurate than a factory Remington gun. Plus you have more than one shot, quickly.
