    Trip Snacks In A Pinch!

I've used this quite a bit whenever I'm heading out for a day of fishing or hunting... One of the best things to do is pack a meal that will be easy to eat and not call for a lot of work to put together or require different utensils. So here's what I do...

First I make up a bunch of East Texas Po-Boy Sandwiches ... I take some crackers (the kind that has four little crackers still stuck together on the edges) and spread a light layer of mayo (Hellman's of course!) then a slice of cheese. Top it off with another cracker and you have a mini-sandwich! Toss some into zip-lock baggies and off you go!

Or I'll take a big wide-mouth thermos for some hot dogs. Get yourself some beef franks or hot links and put however many you are going to eat into the thermos. Boil some water and pour into the thermos and make sure you cover the links/dogs with water. When you're ready for a snack just take out the frank/link and toss it onto a bun. Squirt on some mayo (Hellman's of course!) or mustard, or whatever and chow down! That thermos will keep those franks/links nice and warm throughout the day!

So.... what are some of your meals that you like to toss together in a pinch for your trips?!

Oh and when you go fishin with a buddy and about midday you realize you left your snacks in the truck, those nasty little vienna (sp?) sausages he's had in his boat for about 2 years will work in a pinch and keep you from gnawing your arm off....but it will make you try to eat your own foot just to get the taste out

Really the only time we pack snacks is when we go diving offshore. We pack dried sausage and clausen pickles....

A can of sardines (Portugese, in olive oil), Saltine crackers and a bottle of Tabasco. The only time I enjoy this snack is while at the lease or fishing. My wife is so grossed out by them I am forbidden to open a can in the house!

My brother in law and I only bring a few things to the lease usually. Hog head cheese, crackers, loaf of bread, boudain, and a few links of sausage, and also pistachios or peanuts. We usually focus more on our liquid diet

Make a batch of homemade snack mix. Has all the essential protein and fats you need for good energy and little energy robbing sugars.

Oven roasted walnut (or pecan) halves and pieces
coursely broken dark chocolate (72% cacao)
handful of dried fruit (rasins, unsweetened cranberries or unsweetened blueberries)
handful or 2 of dried shredded unsweetened coconut.
recipe can also be altered and baked to make bars

Boiled eggs are also good, can be kept cold with a frozen gelatin style ice pack. Tabasco and picante are good toppers for it.

Summer sausage and extra sharp white cheddar cheese

                      homemade venison jerky

                      smoked oysters

vaccum sealed or canned smoked salmon

Sausage wrapped in foil and throw it on truck/boat/atv/utv motor to heat it up. Carry some tortillas with you. Good stuff.

Not many things I won't eat but head cheese is one of them!
