    4wd problems

Has anybody had problems with the 4wd on their Dodge trucks? Mine is shifting in and out of 4wd while driving down the road and you can even hear it trying to engage when the truck is turned off. It has the knob to take it in and out of 4wd. Maybe electrical problems?

Gas or diesel? Buddy of mine has an 04' 2500 manual and his was giving him problems going in and out of 4wd. Figured out that you have to hold the clutch on the floor to disengage. Only reason he had that problem was bc he replaced the clutch with a racing type clutch with a much shorter throw.

It's an 06 2500. It's an automatic. I was thinking it had to be something electrical because you can hear the motor on the transfer case trying to engage 4wd when it's turned off.

A friend had that problem two seasons ago. Got stuck in the mud leaving the lease, put it in 4wd and crawled out, hit the hard top and was cruising down the road when the right hub locked ... surprising how much damge that 6" hackberry did to his truck! Figure it out quick, it totalled my buddies truck. I don't remember what year it was, prolly 02-04'ish?

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. I took it to the dealership and it worked fine for them, go figure. They kept it for two days and didn't find a problem. It doesn't do it all the time but about every third or fourth time you drive it. Thinking about just trading it in, my wife wants a new vehicle anyway.

Customer Concern: Transfer case shifts into 4 wheel drive by itself intermittently for the customer. There is a code C1404 stored in the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Road tested and the problem is not present right now.
Tests/Procedures: 1. This code can be set and the system can go into 4 wheel drive by itself if the 5 volts to the transfer case shift motor gets shorted low. There is a condition that can cause this and it is related to the A/C pressure sensor. The A/C pressure sensor will short out and cause this to happen. Being that this is intermittent, the pressure sensor can be disconnected to eliminate it or simply replace it.

                  2. If the 5 V reference is OK, monitor the transfer case mode sensor voltage on the White/Dark Green wire at the transfer case mode sensor. If erratic, replace the transfer case mode sensor/shift motor.
Potential Causes: Air Conditioner (A/C) Pressure Sensor
                  Transfer Case Mode Sensor

Tech Tips: The transfer case mode sensor is part of the transfer case shift actuator.

That sounds like what's going on. I'm headed to the dealership with my wife after lunch to see if we can trade it for something else. I'm done with Dodges.

Ended up trading and getting my wife an Xterra. I didn't feel like messing with it, that's the third thing that's gone wrong with the truck and it's only got 67k miles on it.
