    Another spill in the Gulf?

Heard of a new oil spill 10 miles wide off the coast of LA. Anyone else heard of this?

I don't want to side track this thread, but I know we have a lot of oil guys on here that can help me understand. What exactly is the "moratorium"? I'm just trying to understand where we are at with our existing platforms. Are they still operating or does the moratorium only affect new drilling?

I think you're referring to the PERMAtorium....

our gracious president "lifted" the moratorium months ago (as he has commented on several times), and as of then, only a single permit has been approved in deepwater. Several of the rigs have left for Brazil or Africa (they're not coming back), and the word is now, that only development wells will be allowed... no exploration wells. Which means no new fields to discover.... which means activity will never be what it was in the gulf.

they are still allowing shallow drilling, but those wells just don't produce like some of the deepwater fields, and they still have ridiculous environmental regulations, which makes them far less profitable.

the article above said it was a rainbow sheen... probably a ship pumped it's bilge out... it's not uncommon to see light sheens offshore from shipping.

God I hope not. Gas prices dont need any excuse to get higher.

I hope this really is another case of media hype. We don't need any more excuses for rising gas prices or moratoriums. Both of these are putting Americans out of work.
