cabela's recon app for iphone - anyone tried it?

    looks cool:

but the fine print says running a gps on your iPhone can really cut into the battery. wondering if I do an all day hunt if I end up with a dead phone. anybody tried this one?

I just got the e-mail from Cabelas this morning. I'm thinking of downloading since I have a credit in my iTunes account. I'd like to hear what others have to say though.

I got the e-mail this morning as well...the battery on my iphone is horrible! I'm afraid it'd destroy my battery life...

yeah, I used to see all those ads for iPhone battery boosters in those in-flight magazines and I'd think "who needs one of those?"

then I got an iPhone... oh, now I get it....

I don't have an iPhone but have a similar product with a verizon phone and when I use the GPS it puts a huge drain on the battery . I would reccomend getting xtra batteries
as back ups if using for all day types of hunts .

Is it worth it I just use google earth. Get a iGo charger case if you need more battery life. My wife reps them so I get samples. This thing is awesome when hunting. Get an extra charge out of it.

I've looked into em, but I cant go without my otterbox! That thing has saved my phone three times today! couldnt they just make a plug in and I could still use my otter box?

I use google earth too. Tag things like big buck scrapes and trails into property when scouting a new place to hunt.

I dont believe it will work without cell phone coverage tho, the gps has to connect to a tower to tell you were it is in relation.
