REI says no first aid kit for hunters

I live in Washington state where REI is based. Today my wife got home from talking with a guy that is putting on a DU fundraiser. She's certified to teach wilderness first aid and has offered to teach a class as part of an auction item that they are putting together for a banquet. She asked if he's also including a first aid kit.

Apparently, he had contacted the manager of the REI store in Lynnwood, about 15 miles north of Seattle, to see if they might offer one for the fundraiser. He said sure, but he'd have to clear it with corporate first. Corporate said no. Apparently they said no because DU advocates hunting.

Can't say I'm too surprised by this, but I'd thought I'd share it. I'll send them a letter and see if I can get them to refigure their thinking on the matter.

Let's get some real answers on this and go from there.

Wishing a hunter harm is not a good thing.

Companies have to worry about being PC too much. I would invest in a company that did things right in spite of, or in the face of adversity. However I dont think one exist.

Who cares whats PC! Do what you feel/know is correct and you got my vote.

My wife took me into REI for the first time about 15 years ago on South Lamar in Austin. Got a bad vibe right off the bat so I started asking in a loud voice "Where are the guns?!" She made me shut up cuz I was embarrassing her...

                    Granolas....

I don't even know what a REI is. Ain't got none of them out in Hicksville. But I'll boycot 'em anyways.

I don't go there often, but the store is more oriented to backpacking and hiking than hunting.

Not surprised they would refuse to give to an organization that might offend their bunny-hugging, left-leaning customers.

Ask Cabela's, I know there's one in Lacey, WA .....nice place but sure is hard to get to!

BTW, we are just south of you right now -- down in Eugene.
Spent this winter crossing back and forth over Snoqualmie Pass. It's a really pretty area!

Somebody with a little time on his hands needs to investigate and report on REI's actual corporate philosophy as it pertains to hunting, rather than go off on speculation and conjecture. If they're really anti's, then definitely boycott. But until then....
