    Goldthwaite area reports?

We had a disappointing opener. We hunt approx 500 acres, 16 miles southeast of Goldthwaite and have trail cam pics as late as two weeks ago showing large numbers of does and several nice bucks coming in to all three feeders during the day. This weekend we only had 5 total deer come to the feeders during daylight hours but have pics showing them there at all hours of the night and wee hours of the morning since Thursday afternoon. We noticed that the acorns have started falling and did witness several deer feeding under the live oaks. We know the big boys are there, I guess was just a case of wrong place, wrong time. Anyone else have similar experiences this weekend?

I hunt just southwest of Breckenridge (1 1/2 hours north of Goldthrwaite), so we are in the same area, sort of... It was the same with us.. full moon, acorns falling like rain, and hot days. It'll get better, I've seen too many deer out there to think they aren't around.

Yup - it was the same at our place. The full moon and acorns seems to have caused a lot of folks to go home empty handed.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the full moon. I was casting a shadow all the way to my tripod.

Full Moon - it cut our numbers way down.

Hunt off CR 411 and we could not more than a handful of acorns in our pasture. None on the trees and nothing on the ground. The trees in camp are dropping but not in the feild. We have some tremendous bucks this year. Kinda hard to belive these are from the Goldwaithe area. I had 2 decent bucks running with a doe come in both hunts Saturday and smacked a pig early Sunday morning. Everyones feeder were being ate up at night this weekend.

I hunt about 12 miles southwest of Goldthwaite, and it was pretty slim, only 1 guy out of 5 saw deer at a feeder, and that was only one time this weekend.

I hunt near cross plains, about 22 miles NW of Brownwood, and had the same thing. Acorns dropping like bombs and a full moon. I saw nothing while on the stand. Saw lots of deer while walking back to my truck. I got hit several times by falling acorns while in my tripod. Sounded like a war with all the acorns dropping. Glad to hear other people had a slow opening weekend as well.

I was about 5 miles north of Goldthwaite.Saw nothing sat morning.Sat evening a group of does with fawns staged nearby but never came in.I think the gusty wind had them jittery as well as the moon and bumper crop of acorns. The stands all have alot of traffic. One area right next to a tripod had become a bedding area.

I think the moon had more to do with it than anything. I hunt around Sabinal with no acorns on the place and game cam showed deer feeding throughout the night. I was lucky to see a deer while on the stand this past weekend.

Tons and tons of acorns. and add to disapointing weeknd i got a speeding ticket.
