    A Mudshack 1st

I sat here last week watching you guys talk about what to do when it is time to get out of the stand when there is still deer around. That was a fairy tale for me.

Well, last night, I had a doe walk under me and feed for 15 min. I could have spit on her the entire time. I chose not to take her because I couldn't tell if she was 2.5 or 8.5 years old (very skinny). She walked off and ab out 20 min later (7:35) I decided to call it a night. But just then a fawn/doe starts making her way in. I sat until I couldn't see her anymore, and the mesquitos had a field day. I lowered down my pack, and then it happend!!! She blew at me. My hiding spot was uncovered. Here that little doe was ony 20 yards away, but because it was so dark, I couldn't see her.

    So the firsts are:
    1) I passed up a legal game animal
    2) I got to hear a deer feeding and smelling around (kind of like a dog)
    3) I had a deer hang out under me, and I got to experience THEIR world
    4) I had deer hanging out around my stand when it was time to leave.

Thank you TBH for getting me into this awesome sport where you can come home empty handed and consider it a successful day.

I know the feeling, after spooking deer bedded down in the morning, I jumped a fawn 10 yrds away, bedded down under the tree I hunt. Wow ! what a way to wake up before the evening hunt...anyway, I watched a little 8 ~2.5, not legal 12.5-13" spread...for about 30 minutes walking, eating, and licking...I'm calling him Mr Clean. He licked himself more than a cat! even caught him licking his tail, that's a first. Never seen a deer reach all the way back to lick the tip of his tail. neat to watch and by the way I walked away this weekend feeling like I had a successfull hunt even though I didn't have any meat in the ice chest.

The cows did not show up. I had the sling shot ready for them!! They did manage to finish off 80lbs of corn spread out over a 100' radius around my stand in one week. I think the doe found just a few kernals down deep in the grass.

When I walked back to the truck in the dark, they were all standing next to the truck. Little freaky to be walking and all of a sudden you have 1000lbs of black beef right in front of you. I think they were waiting for my truck to feed them.
