    This really bites........Parvovirus.

My new pup was acting listless and wouldn't eat so I took her to the vet and my fears were confirmed. She's got Parvo. I'm giving her IVs to keep her hydrated, penicillin and tamaflu. She's got a 50/50 shot at making it.

I'm taking the week off from work to try and beat this thing. I lost one twenty years ago to this stuff. Gonna give it all I've got to keep from burying this one. It's all up to her now. They say that Catahoulas are tough, we're fixin' to find out.

    Wish us luck y'all.

Good luck. My border collie/heeler mix won that battle. I hope that pretty cat does! Prayers up for your pup!

I lost a beautiful black & tan hound pup to parvo when I was a kid. Nasty stuff. I hope your dog makes it.

Good luck Allaround....that parvo is a biznitch.

My brother's lab beat it 10 years ago and is one of the best bird dogs I have been around.

I had a pup come down with parvo several years ago and the vet told me to feed him boiled chicken livers. I don't know what that does for them but my pup made it so I'm a believer.

I've had to get it, and both made it being on IV fluids to keep them hydrated, and antibiotics.

Sounds like you got a handle on the treatment. dehaydration is what you have to fight and iv fluids are your friend. one thing i would add is cerenia. Get your vet to give you some injections of cerenia. 1cc per 20lbs sq. it is a anti-emetic drug that works great. it also helps w/ the stomach pain asso w/ parvo. need anything call (817) 913-3099. I am a vet and will help if I can. parvo sucks.

My lab got it when he was about 4 months old. I took him to the vet and they kept him for 2 days and he was back to normal. My vet told me that if you catch soon enough and hospitalize the dog about 95% make it.

I hope for the best for you.
We live out the boonies and have only 'rescued' dogs the last several years. Two of those, from the same animal shelter, died from parvo within two weeks after we got them. While the shelter seems relatively clean, it is obvious that they DO NOT clean and sanitize areas after a parvo problem and without proper sanitization, another dog can get it WEEKS later.
That shelter is now off our list.
