    AR build questions

Ive been lookin to build an AR 15 for a while. Yesterday i ran across a billet lower receiver from Quentin Defense. Very nice. Not sure if its necessary, but it is nice. I am also looking at rifle kit from M&A parts. 16" varmit
Barrel, adjustable stock, flattop receiver. Does anyone recommend or know anything about Quentin Defense? M&A uses LMT receivers and the barrels are probably Wilson. Any thoughts there? This will be a range gun, maybe some backwoods carry, pig shooter. Will the 16" varmit barrell be too heavy even for short distance carry? What say you?

I don't feel the weight from the barrel would be such a big a difference as to prevent or make carrying it uncomfortable. Where you get into weight issues is all the extra stuff people hang on it. Go with a KISS rifle with a small red dot for close (<100 yrd) shots and nothing else and you will be happy.

this is just my opinion.. so others may not agree... 1: i had a bull barrel ar 16" , I sold it ! for me , it was too heavy to be "handy " . it shot great and a fellow tbh member bought it and he loves it .. however I prefer the m4 contour and for hunting , it's plenty accurate ...

on the other hand , I think 223 is not the best cartridge for pigs in general ... 6.8 or the new 300 aac blackout would be a much better choice as they shoot heavier bullets that I beleive will perform better on a tough boar ..

I shot this dude from 150 yards .. and still had to pump half a clip in him after the initial lung shot .. i'm sure he would have died eventually .. second pic.. same story .. thrid one died on first shot but much smaller pig

but I much preffer a 1 shot "STOP" so now I carry a 300 blackout ... small pig .. so not a good representation on power , but trust me .. it's more power(last pic..)

      again .. just my 2c..

QD lower is made from 6061 aluminum and not 7075. not sure if it really matters, but a consideration.

Now I've got to ask if it's possible, feasible , or even stupid to try to build one myself? I mean every part, bought separately and installed, assembled, and put together by myself! I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and think if the normal person can do, then I think I could too. What is needed in the way of tools? Anything special, headspace gauges? I'm really thinking about this.

the lower will take you about 45 mins to 2 hrs depending on how slowly you go. PM me your email addy and i will send you a PDF on how to put them together. The upper is pretty darn simple, and there are lower parts kits and upper parts kits with everything you need to get it done if you really wanted to.
