    Slick Trick Review

1st let me start off by saying I am a huge fan of these broadheads. I love them. Well, this morning I shot a buck at 22.5 yards and it sliced through him like butter. I made a perfect heart shot and the deer only made it about 85 yards. Now when I went to get my arrow it was covered in blood, but I couldn't find any blood on the ground in the direction he ran. Plus when I found him I couldn't find any blood near him except where he died. This is a first for me with the Slick Tricks, because in the past a blind man could follow the blood trail they left. I do hunt out of a pop up blind and was thinking a straight through shot instead of a downward angle shot may have had something to do with it, but once I opened him up the blood poured out of his cavity. Anyone else have this happen to them with Slick Tricks? I have had this with other broadheads, but never with Slick Tricks. I know I have killed at 11 deer with the Slick Tricks and most of them from a ground blind.

bqwhuntertex- This will happen with ANY broadhead, as the tissues between vitals and hide slip around and prevent blood from exiting the cavity.
I always ask : At what point did the broadhead fail?
I don't use ST heads but they are one of the best, and I would not let this experiance concern me.

Sounds like he bled out "internally" instead of on the ground. Also sounds like shooting from a ground position was a big factor.

I shot a doe with a slick trick thru the lungs... had 2 blood trails.

Sounds like it was where it was shot & from what angle. I don't think it had anything to do with the broadhead... regardless of what it was.

      Conggrats on the deer.

This will not deter me from still using the Slick Tricks. I am solidly sold on them.

Maybe it went through him so fast it carterized the cut and he couldn't bleed . I have used them and really like'em. My son shot a turkey with one last year and I couldn't believe how much it bled. Don't give them up.

Had the same thing happen to me last year with a doe. She only ran 50 yards, but from the shot to the drop point there was not blood on the ground. I saw her go down so I didn;t have to track her, but I followed her prints to where she dropped. Ot the heads fault, just one of those things.

Although I really Like my slick tricks one of my newest is JUNK.

The slots were too narrow for the blades to slide in so I MADE them go in, now they won't come out - ERGGG.

1st bad head out of the 9 I've purchased.

First of all, congrats on the nice Buck!

I think Rocky brings up a very good possible answer. I'd also suggest that with this "summer" we've had and all the rain induced grass/forage, that the deer are going to have quite a bit more fat than they normally do this time of year. That fat, in addition to what Rocky stated, could have clogged that hole and not allowed any blood to come out.

I've personlly killed 3 deer with the head and had the same results of your prior harvests.

The Aoudad in my avatar did the same thing...17 yard shot, right through the heart and he bolted through a good size patch of cactus. I couldn't see any blood spray in the cactus and was circling around the backside, where he exited to find the trail and he was laying in plain view about 20 yards further...total distance about 30 yards. Very little blood trail but the cavity was full. Mine was out of a popup as well. Didn't deter me a bit...when I finally get to go bowhunting this year, I will have ST's in my quiver.

got one with narrow slots as well.......can't even make the blades fit. Called the number on the back of the package last week, left a message with no return call. First yr with ST's for me, not starting good.

E-mail Old hootowl. He just e-mailed me today at work and says there will be a new one in my mailbox next week to replace the one with small slots.
Don't force the blades in, ifn you do- they won't come out.....
