hog feeder question

So I built me a pvc pipe feeder like I found in the DIY. I put it out a couple weeks ago and the hogs are all over it but just are not rolling it and tryin to get the corn out. I sprinkled some corn around it when I put it out to get the hogs on it and they ate all that but are not doing what the feeder is intended to do. I have the holes drilled to where it is not easy to get the corn out but I can roll it with my foot a few feet and there will be corn on the ground so it does come out. Anybody got any hints or tricks up their sleeve or does it just take time? I had a camera on it set on video and they just barely push it enough to get what I had put on the ground.

Give it time. Your basically training them. So keep on spreading corn along the pipe until they figure it out

Im having the same problem! I'm curious to know if I need to make my holes bigger? I have 4 1/2" holes and verey little corn comes out when I roll it, maybe 10 kernels with a complete circle and me banging it pretty hard. Any ideas or is this the proper hole size and #?

I used a 3/4" bit. You have to fill it a little more often, but it helps bring them back.

Give it time. Sounds about like the same flow as mine.

Any more corn falling out than that you might as well dump a bag on the ground.

If you wanted to make the holes bigger, and then realize too much is falling out, you can always ductape over a few of the holes.

I have four 5/8" holes drilled 90 degrees to each other in a five foot long six inch pipe.It only needs to rotate a quarter turn to release the corn from one of the holes.It keeps them there for quite a while.I have a 12 foot diameter patch of nothing but dirt they have worn down.

Hey Poppy, how often do you have to refill your pipe? I'm thinking about leaving mine with 4 holes but making them 5/8 instead of 1/2. I just don't want it going empty in less than a week.

anyone know how long it takes to empty a 5' long 4" pipe feeder with 1/2" holes or 5/8" holes? (4 holes). Thanks.

tef,my boy goes to the ranch every other weekend and most of time it's empty but sometimes not. Sorry,that the best I can tell you.I have not been able to go only one weekend since Christmas.Good luck and be safe
