We have lots of spikes like that around Jewett. The dont kill a doe mentality with regards to TP&W in that area has really hurt seeing mature bucks.
With the number of does and the yopon problems it jus gets worse.
I would give up seeing so many deer around there for a chance to see a good buck from time to time.

He does only look to be 1.5. If you are able to shoot does in your county I would try and tag out on them ASAP.

you can only harvest two doe thru the season, only during archery season or three days during rifle. I will be shooting a doe tonight if the shot arises, but one isn't even going to dent it.

Well no meat on the table yet, but for the area i hunt i can not complain on the deer activity this morning. from the past I have tc pics of 5 different spikes 3 of them being really young yearlings so ill give them a year to see if anything changes up top, thats what my daily vistors consist of at my stand about 6 doe and 4 or so spike. Well i arrived at my stand this morning and at day break i heard rustling in the brush about 50 yards from my stand, when it go light enough to see, it turned out to be the biggest of the five spikes bedded down. 15mins or so passed and good shootin light cam thru, the spike got up and started feedin about 30 yards board side for about 30mins, my palms where sweaty and finger was twitching but i couldnt force myself to shoot him on the first day and first rattle out of the box, i seen four doe later in the morning also.

now that you have read the set up, i have a question, this big spike seems to me that he is tryin to be the dominant buck in the area, i have tc pics of him pushing/chasing the smaller spikes away,and now he is settin up post by my stand. im middle of the road on the spike debate (the all spikes are worthless debate). and Im prob. the worst at aging deer on the hoof, but id say he looks to be 2.5-3, and he does have a small 1/2 inch tine trying to pop thru, my question is should i cull him? here is a tc pic i got of him, i know he will be back this evening. sorry for the long spill.

you know the old saying, a bird in hand is better than 2 in the bush. if you rarely see bucks on your place i'd air him out in a heartbeat especially if he's showing dominant tendecies.

well, heat and wind ruined the hunt this evening, didnt see squat anywhere, except a nice size boar on the way out, but he was way faster than i was. I didnt feel like skinning nothing anyways
