this deer was killed the first week of Januaryand I video'd him for three days guarding a doe and chasing other bucks off like a fat boy guarding his birthday cake. He had run himself so haggard he literally did not have an ounce of fat on him even with the artic cold.

I am reading a book about a hunter in Alaska in the 1930's. He was talking about people who complained about moose meat being gamey, and he said it was mainly because they were bulls taken during the rut and due to the fact that the bulls had been ingesting cow urine. Said he'd killed rutting bulls with nothing in their stomachs but a gallon of urine. Same for caribou.

Never tasted gamey deer. I've always wondered if it's just me.

I shot a buck in late december, had half made into sausage and the rest into ground meat...we cant stand it! The sausage is tolerable with lots of bbq sauce or spicy mustard, but the hamburger is unedible IMO.

I'm thinking about taking the hamburger (aprx 45lbs) to turn it into sausage. if that doesnt work, I'll give it away.

the buck hung in the freezer for 2 days before we skinned it...i'm sure that didn't help.
