?? For you East Tx. Whitetail Guru's

I've been look'in for the past 3 weeks for shed antlers on my property. Had several nice bucks at my gravity feeder, all coming at least 4-5 times per day from the same general direction. My property is joined by the Angelina Nat'l Forest to the South (the direction they generally come from) with very minimal access by others, is relatively flat and is covered by a mix of Hardwoods and Pines with water close by. With the constant activity at the feeder, I would've imagined the bucks traveled less than a half mile from the feeder but I have only found 2 sheds, one at the feeder and another about 300 yds away. Any suggestions as to how far they would travel and the type of terrain they will bed in? I have exhaused my resources to locate them and have walked countless miles zig-zagging within a 1/2 mile radius of the feeder.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Give up... I live in Lufkin and spend HOURS in the woods every year reworking stands and turkey hunting. I never find sheds here, no one does. Between squirrels, rabbits, rats, house dogs, and the yotes they're gone nearly as soon as they hit the ground. The only ones I've found were very fresh or very small. Good luck. As far as their home range, you've got about a 2 mile circle

Every E. Texas shed I've found was in the WIDE OPEN, middle of field, not a tree within 400 yrds........no kidding, NEVER found one in E. Texas on a fence row or in the woods.

East Texas? You must have shed poachers.

If you have any fence rows look along them, they will fall off when the jump over. I found a nice one on a old road that that particular buck traveled. It was a fairly fresh shed. Like mentioned about, I have always kidded that east tx deer dont shed, squirrels eat them off their heads. Almost every shed I have found in east texas has been chewed on buy squirrels, and rabbits. Look along pine plantations and near feeders. It is much easier in the hill country and south tx to find those things than in east tx.

Youve got bucks coming multiple times to the feeder during daytime and you know what general direction they always come in. Thats more than half the battle won in East texas. Squirrels, racconns and rabbits usually get em within a few days. Good luck

Look for them in the holes the bucks live in during hunting season.

That and thick arse vegetation. It's hard enough walking through alot of our property much less having the visibility to spot sheds.

2 is not bad for ET. Congrats.
I have found them just about everywhere. Next to ditches, logs, roads, fences, ect. Don't forget edges of treelines and thickets. Good luck

Gonna do some shed hunting myself next week, found a nice one last fall and was surprised that it did not have one nibble by the mice and squirrels. Did quite a bit of walking in the same area looking for the other side with no luck

Next year try standing up some hog paneling in the shape of a W in a couple spots and corn and rice bran inside the corners. They will knock em off while feeding.

Thanks for all the "legitimate" comments guys. I guess I will give up for the year. I have walked countless hours and miles thru the adjacent properties looking for a couple of specific deer sheds but they must have traveled much farther than I realized. I'll try the antler trap next year. I was just a few days late with it this year.

                              Best of luck to all.
