Never been to KJO but hear great things about it. I have been to Boazmans Quatro B in Hondo and for 600 you can shoot any buck on the place and no extra kill fees. I saw several nice axis bucks while i was there just wasnt there to hunt them.He has Sika , Black Buck, axis , and Fallow bucks. Him and KJO are the cheapest by far i believe ...but you pay when you hit the door regardless if you harvest an animal or not. Most other places charge a minimal day hunt fee and then another kill fee usually around 1200 -1500. Not everybody but most. If you dont kill you dont pay...so that is the trade off for cheaper hunts.

777 Ranch is $300 per day plus a $3,000 kill fee. How is 777 Ranch cheaper?
Either way the MATH on double arrow is %50 deposit which would be $925 and you kill or wound it's double that.
I would never pay a ranch $925 for a weekend hunt and considering this guy is on a budget, I doubt they'll be getting his business either.

Jmh05 and ken, I appreciate the suggestions and interest.
Unfortunately, doublearrow, YO and 777 are out of the price range.
I'm not looking for a trophy axis to brag about. I just want to kill an axis buck. I'd be happy with a yearling spike (if they grow spikes I don't know, just trying to make a point).
Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! I've got a couple of leads. Please, keep 'em coming!
And, angelalt returned your PM.

I plan to visit the Bug Scuffle this year at least once, if not twice. Great folks and great hunting.
On a budget to get axis meat and a cool trophy, don't rule out an axis doe hunt. Get the beautiful hide tanned and hang it on the wall or something. That hide is cooler, in my opinion, than a spike or small rack.

I personally got tired of spending half or a third of what you would to a day lease place and coming home empty handed. We still had a good time no matter what, but I would rather save some more money and pay a couple hundred bucks if I don't shoot and have the same great time. Double L is set up like that. Good luck!
