    Lavaca Co.

My camera has not taken a deer pic in the last 2 weeks, hog pics every night, but no deer. The live oaks that have acorns are thick with'em. Some of the oaks have none.

I grew up in Hallettsville and I hunt in Eastern Lavaca County between Sublime and Vienna. The best hunting is definitely in the eastern half (east of HWY 77)of the county. Lots of deer but nothing huge(restrictions are helping) this year the hog population has exploded. The deer in my avatar was killed Nov. 2006 ~117 B&C. Here are some pics to give you an idea of deer in the area.
Also check out the Hallettsville KC HAll website this is last years kills (rifle only) http://www.kchall.com/bbcontest/2006...lavacaplc.html
The first pic is off my girlfriends place east of Hallettsville
the guy is my girlfriends brother with his drop tine deer from last year ~130B&C
just one of many hog pictures of my place and a nice 9pt from last year on my place also

In and around jackson and lavaca county you will learn real fast to distance yourself from the crowd. Hunt hard. There are some really good deer in the area that alot of people have rarely seen. Nocturnal bucks have been killing me the past few years but i havent gotton a decent buck on camera yet. As for this weekend it will be one of the best times to jump on a good buck early....some areas have such a screwed up rut that you may not even experience much activity. Ive seen does come in so late that last year i had a doe spooted several times that had twins spooted fawns and this was in late october....cant tell me she wansnt bred late.

oh and as for acorns live with em.....there are so many trees around that are dropping its almost impossible to pattern deer movement to them.

I saw alot of bucks late one eve in early Aug, and late June. Havent seen hardly any in the last 3 trips. The Biologist says there are several 120/130 class in the area. The piece of land i am hunting hasnt been hunted in over 25 years.
