I have never not gotten a deer because of the scopes and I have been hunting and killing deer for well over 30 years.

Would I like to have one of the nicer scopes? Absolutely! And I might one day. But a man has to get the best he can afford and I really believe that he will be satisfied.
This is kinda along the lines I am sticking too.

To me, mid-tier for a practical hunting rig would be the VX3 line, Ziess conquest line, Minox, etc. Youll get the most for your money there and come in around $450-$800. You can go up from there in price in a hurry, but any "improvements" will become smaller as you move up. Worth it to some, but not to me.
      Very well put.

I was in Cabelas last year looking at scopes and compared several. I looked at bright areas of the store and in areas with lots of shadows.

I looked at the following at the same time set to the same power.

Zeiss Conquest (was either the 4.5-14x50 or 6.5-20x50) ~$800
      Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x50 ~$750
      Swarovski Z6 2.5-15x56 $2600
      Trijicon Accupoint 5-20x50 $900

All four looked good when looking at the brightly lit areas of the store.

The Leupold was easily the worst of the bunch though and even worse when looking into the shadows. It just was not nearly as bright or clear.

The Zeiss and Trijicon were very close to the point I couldn't decide which was better.

The Swaro was better than all but it was nowhere near enough better to pay $1700 more than the Trijicon.

Binoculars are the same. A buddy has some Leica Ultravid 10x50's and I have a pair of Nikon ATB 10x36's.

In bright sunlight there is little difference but in low light or indoors the Leica's are night/day better. The contrast in low light is spectacular on them. But they are $1500 more expensive than my $300 pair of Nikons so they better be nicer.

        My bad, I meant a Z5 3.5-18 x 44.

        Z6 was to big.
