Anyone javelina hunting with Jarred Peeples this week?

Not sure what happened, but the King Ranch hunt was canceled, so we're set to go down to Benavides on Thursday and hunt through the weekend. We've always had a good time on these hunts, and hope to get thick into the javelinas again.

I have no idea what to expect for the new property, other than Jarred telling my dad they're covered up in javelinas. We've hunted with Jarred at the Chapparossa and the King and have always been successful. A little disappointed we're not on the King again - always cool to see the monster deer and turkey walking around in bow range, taunting you. Hopefully the new place is similar.

    So, who's planning on going?

I thought that name rang a bell.
Glad I'm going with a 5 star outfitter, this year!

Yeah, I read the thread from the hunters last year, and was surprised. Sounds like he tried to remedy the problem. We've hunted with Jarred for several years in a row and have not had any problems, and have always had a great time. Certainly not trying to open a wound for anyone negatively impacted. Just wanted to see if any other folks from the green screen are going to be there.

Glad to hear someone has been treated right by him. Last year wasn't the first problem I have heard of and I am sure it won't be the last......

Well, we can only hope for the best. Our luck's been with us so far!

We'll be down there Thursday evening to start hunting Friday morning. We'll have 3-5 folks total, depending on who can commit. We'll have a travel trailer pulled by a blue Dodge, and a maroon Tacoma. If you see us, stop by and say howdy.

my buddy has tons of them at his lease... I talked myself into one, but I want the nights to stay about 70 or 80 before I stay out all night waiting for one!

Might want to check on that. Javelina are considered game animals and I don't think you can hunt them at night.

X2. Illegal to hunt javi's at night.

Javelina ARE game animals as they are native. There's a limit of two per year. And you're not supposed to hunt them at night.

On another note, a buddy of mine has a lease in Benavides and they are covered up in javelina.

We've hunted with Jerrod for several years as well, on several ranches and have had problems with him for most of them. Our fault for believing what he told us each time I know, but to his credit, he always made it "sound" good before hand. More than once we have arrived in camp to find some if not most of what we were promised was not going to be delivered. Usually about that time he dissapears for the weekend. We have had some good hunts with him, don't get me wrong. But they have been overshadowed by the bad ones.

We vowed not to go back with him again, but then he somehow got back on the King. We've never had a bad hunt there so we gave him another chance that year. Things still werent as promised, but the hunting was so good we overlooked that little detail. Fast forward to last year, we showed up with an even bigger group to find, you guessed it.......things not as promised. We were given a fraction of the ground we were supposed to have access to and there were very few javies in the 2 pastures we got crammed into. Not cool.

I realize hunting is hunting and he cant control that (though I do feel he knew there werent that many javies in the small area he crammed us in). But he can control his honesty and delivering what was agreed upon before the money changed hands. I was part of the group that was offered the "remedy". Given the history we share, I chose not to persue it because I have no reason to believe it will be "as stated". We have had the chance to talk with many other groups hunting with him over the years. Most seem to think like we do - They know things may not be as Jerrod agreed to before hand, but the hunting usually makes up for it. its a gamble.

I'm done gambling. We've had some of the best hunts you could ever hope to have with him and I hope others continue to get that experience. But that last one was the final straw for me. It really has nothing to do with the quality of the hunting itself, but has everything to do with honoring your word.
