    Feed Pen Disappointment

My first time to see this at a feed pen. He had already shed his antlers so I'm not sure who he was. There were a few good ones in the area.

Looks like he got a little lazy jumping over.
Any case it's a terrible waste of a wonderful creature.

It happens. Have lost 2 bucks in ten years that way. Hate to see it.

We had this happen before the season started this year. The first time I had seen a deer get caught in a feed pen like that.

You can stop that from happening by taking a strip of fine mesh wire, doubling it over and laying it over that top panel so that it covers both sides...

Stops deer from getting caught up that way (usually it is 3 month old fawns)

I was told that trick and assume it works... since they usually get their leg caught in that top panel...

This summer... due to our extensive trapping and chopper work on hogs... we are lifting up ALL of our hog panels and stacking them...

It happened to me the first time I ever put up a feeder pen.

Three weeks later I show up to find a buck all wrapped up.

I have heard about doing the wire mesh as Encinal stated above. Heard it works well.

Mary and I were able to free a nubbin' buck that was hung up once. It is sad...but part of our world.

Really good idea Marco has. If it saved one deer it would be worth the time and money.
Sorry for the loss of a deer.
