    Bows = Bad Investment!

    I love my bows don't get me wrong, but man they seem like a bad investment. You spend upwards of $1K on a rig and when you get ready to get another one you are lucky to get half of that for it. Just check the classifieds. There are some fantastic bows over there for sale for half of what they probably cost new. Now I will keep playing the game I am sure, but just wanted to vent. I have several bows in the classifieds right now. Granted one is a target bow and they are a terrible investment! I have my Conquest 3 on there and Derick has an awesome Hoyt target bow on there for a good price and no takers!! Oh well just venting!!!!

    Crazy to think a gun will be passed down from gen to gen and cherished but if I pass down the bow I'm using right now when I die which ever kid gets it will think " man dad liked you better look at this crap he left me".

        EXACTLY!! I shoot my bow daily. I cherish my guns. All of them have a special meaning to me. But you pay $700 for a bolt action rifle and you will get that or very close to that years later. Just a different game I guess. Bows are like vehicles I guess. I have had decent luck selling bows that I bought used but the new ones I have always lost or just got stuck with it. I guess I will give it away to get someone in the sport.

            Bows were never meant to be an investment. Keep it and use it for several years and you will get all your money's worth out of it. Get a new one year after year, expect to lose money.

              Pretty much anything you buy new is this way.I have always liked buying nice used stuff(bows,guns,trucks,boats,etc.)and have done well.Usually, I can use these things for a few years and still get what I paid for them or not lose much at all!

                Please lock this thread......OP is giving away all my secrets about how I continue to play the compound bow game.....

                Seriously, after I paid $1k to re-enter the compound game in 2001 with a Mathews Q2 and all the accessories, I vowed to never spend that much on a bow again. Too many good deals out there from those who can afford to keep up with the latest gear.

                      A lot of the rate of depreciation has to do with technological advancement. That's why computers depreciate faster than just about everything else. Even if you had a ten year old computer that hadn't even been taken out of the box yet, it's still virtually worthless in today's market. It's not how well it works, it's how it compares to today's standards.

                          Just a hunch but I'm guessing VorTexan owns or works in a bow shop.

                          I'm loving my used Z7. Saved $450+ on a decked bow because the previous owner wanted a Z7 extreme.

                              I have always said the same thing about bows. That is why I have a bow that I bought 10 years ago that was used when I bought it.. All of my pistol and rifles are worth more (some are worth twice as much) than what I paid for them.
