I recently got a kindle. I have several books I recently purchased in hard copy format. Is there any way to get them on the kindle without purchasing the kindle version? e.g., can I somehow prove I own the book and get a free kindle download?

I wish they would come out with package deals where you get a kindle version at low price or free if you buy a hardback. The kindle is great for when I travel and I like reading on it but there are still a few books I'd like to have for my bookshelf or to pass along to friends.
My wife bought me the big kindle for Christmas and I've read 15 books on it so far but it has put a damper on book sharing with my neighbors.Comment
