    Questions about this Sako Rifle???

I did some trading and ended up with this rifle to "sweeten the deal". I have never had a Sako that is this old before. I know there are some Sako experts out there that can tell me about it. It is a Sako Forester L579. The serial # is 616XX( #s 10091-118961 ran from 1/29/60 to 2/15/73). The barrel is stamped Sako Cal..243 and on the side of the barrel it is stamped Bofors Steel. It is a Deluxe model from what I have read about the engraving on the floorplate and trigger guard. Please chime in if you have knowledge of this rifle. Thanks,
    C.

I think so too. I traded one of my guns for a custom rifle and this was "thrown in".

It's a pre-garcia, meaning it was made before Abu Garcia started importing for Sako. Probably worth north of a grand in decent condition, which it appears to be in.

I just sold a stack of post Garcia's, which are typically worth less, that were L579 Foresters, 243s, for which I got $800 a piece, new in the box. Just to give you an idea.

very nice rifle brother as early model Sako's are known for their accuracy

Thanks for the info. I knew I could count on Casey and Blake to give their thoughts. I haven't decided what I am going to do with it yet. This makes three 243's in my safe, and I am not a huge fan of that cartridge. I much prefer wildcat rounds.

Very nice. My grandpa has one just like that in .270

Bofers steel is the good stuff. Nice rifle, good investment.

Beautiful rifle. It will be worth more in the original chambering, but if you don't like .243 you could consider having it rebored to .260 or 7mm-08. The trick is finding someone to rebore it, that's become a dying industry.

Bofers are awesome and worth a little more scratch

like most older collectable guns...they have a cult like following.

All I know is its a nice gun and there is nothing wrong with a 243 Win.
