Trade a newer two wheel drive truck for an older four wheel drive suv?

What if the trade would eliminate the truck payment?

I have my thoughts on it but am interested to see others' opinions.

Would go from 40k to 80k. 09 Silverado to 05-06 Tahoe.

If the older one was taken care of I would. I haven't had a truck payment in two years and love it. I would always rather have a 4x4 over 2 wheel drive any day if the week. On the flip side I love having a truck. So much more can be hauled in a truck bed. Tough decision but I would do it.

Thanks guys. I was thinking pretty much the same things. I do not haul much in the back anyways which is why I started down this road. That and the savings. For my daily and weekend life, the usefulness of the truck is lost. Everything thing I need for a hunt will fit in an suv. The 4x4 would just be an extra value when the weekend does take me off the pavement. The money saved would cover any repairs too.

A couple of years ago I sold my 07 GMC Denali Pickup and purchased an 03 Tahoe strictly for the purpose of eliminating a vehicle payment. It was a good decision for me. I miss having a truck and I am looking at selling my Tahoe and getting something with a bed but I can assure you it will be something that I can trade my Tahoe for and write a reasonable sized check for. Having vehicle payments is for the birds.

You can always buy a small trailer, maybe a 4x8, for when you need to haul something like a truck. If it meant no payments I would take the trade and run with it.

My wife has a Durango and I have a f250 4 x 4 , her SUV is a lot higher quality than my truck, its basically new has leather and rides like a dream ciompared to my truck. But seems like any time we go any where we take the truck. I still owe 3 more years on it but I wouldn't trade it off for anything even if it meant no payments

If you want to trade down (year model) I would look for a used 4X4 truck. You will miss having a truck bed. No worries about blood getting on the inside. I know you could use a hitch-haul, but then you have to worry about dust getting on the deer or whatever you`re hauling.
