    Had me scared, 223 V 5.56

Reading these threads had me up at night. I have a Colt HBAR Match Sporter that I bought new some 20 years ago. Without thinking about it I've put more than a few thousand 5.56 down range and it was here that I've read about the difference.

I looked at my receiver and it is marked .223. What have I done? What am I going to do with the thousand rounds of Lake City 5.56 arriving today?

I've been searching forums and reading and one poster gave me the clue. Check the barrel. Tho my receiver may be stamped .223 my barrel is stamped 5.56 NATO 1/7.

    I'll sleep better tonight....

Yep, you are good to go. I have the same gun, that I think was built in 1984.

      Colts are all 5.56.
for some reason they choose to stamp the lowers 223. If you will look at the barrel, it will be stamped 5.56.
      Shoot either ammo with confidence...
