    Digging for Artifacts (video)

My family and I took our annual trek to the hill country last week to do some digging. As y'all know, Wednesday was down right brutal but that didn't stop my boys and I from getting out to search for past history. I was planning on documenting most ouf our digging with my video camera but I only got it out a handful of times. Here's is a clip of when we headed out Wednesday morning after the arctic front blasted through. Let me tell ya, it was down right frigid with gusts pushing close to 50 shooting straight up the river! Scroll down for a picture of a few points I found.

    Enjoy!

How do you determine where to dig?

        Great stuff Johnny!

Yep I had the same question.......do you just dig randomly till you find something and then really excavate that area?

We were digging in a well known camp so it's no secret that artifacts are in the area. The main camp has been dug out so it is getting a bit tricky on finding some good quality points. The next day, I actually did a little exploring and started digging a hole away from the main camp area (up high right on the bank) and it produced good for me. Here is the better stuff I pulled out of this hole.

How deep are you going? Are you digging test holes down to "sterile" ground, or are you just working shallower layers with the plan of deepening them later?

                Great vid! Thanks for sharing!!!

This. I dig until I get down into a hard chalky layer of material which is about 3 foot deep or so. I've dug down into this hard/chalky layer plenty of times but it isn't really worth it. I did find this point right inside the chalky stuff which leads me to think it is an older type point? I haven't even looked it up yet and I'm not sure what it is. I have never found a point like this before.

That is very cool! Do y'all ever go out "blindly" or do you stick with known areas and branch out from there?
