    Anyone use perforated square tubing??

I want to build another tripod. I'd like to use the perforated square tubing you see on highway signs so i can easily extend the tripod(telescoping legs).

Anyone have a source in the Austin area ? It sounds like a specialty item for the state to use on roadways... but who knows.

    I am looking for either 1 1/4 or possibly 1 1/2 inch tubing. 3 sections about 8'

    thanx,

not sure if that will be very sturdy as it is ment to hold signs not people. How much do you weight?

Stolle has some feeders and a couple home built quad pods made from it.

i think it may be strong enough. but what will the total weight be? seems like twice that of just a single leg tripod. well, just dont get hurt.

Welding/Steel Supply on the north side of Lampasas had it a couple of years back. We built a temporary cleaning rack out of it (either 1 1/2 or 2").

Unistrut is NOT square tubing. It is a specially formed channel with an open side... not the same thing for sure. Triple S steel in Houston used to have it. I'd bet a full service steel supply company in Austin would have it.

                      No not unistrut but close.

I used some smaller peices to make adjustable legs for a trap thrower but it was either 3/4 or 1" and I bought it at Lowe Depot.

I like the idea of the adjustable tripod legs.

I have built a blind stand with perforated angle iron and lots of nuts and bolts. Easy to carry and easy to take down. Takes less space on the trailer. Just remember to brace leg to leg and leg to platform.

i have an adjustable tripod now. I like the design. real portable. thje legs fold together & I just balance it on my shoulder and go.

problem is getting the seat level... that is where the perforation come into play. really adjustable.

the one I have now is 1 1/4" with 1" tubing that slides inside the 1 1/4. I'd like a little beefier tripod.(it does not have the perforated tubing)

                          btw... i weigh about 200 #.

I sure do and it is plenty strong. I don't even have angle supports. It's stout. My dad had a stock pile of it and I'm now out. I would like to know if there is place to buy it as well.

good to know they are stout. I may have a contact on them. I'll post up if I can locate some.
