Help trying to I.D. weird creature

I don't have pics of this thing but maybe someone knows what I am talking about. I had a busted pipe under the house and I seen what I thought was a long skinny worm in the water but when I picked it up it was not a worm. It was about 10 inches long and 1/16 in diameter,brown in color and wiggled like a worm but not as flexible. It was pointed on both ends and did not have a head on either end. I put it on a concrete block and steped on it but it didn't crush. I steped on it again and ground on it and it didn't move anymore but it was still intact. I fixed the pipe and went back to find it so I could show someone but it was gone. Anyone have a idea what it was?

It was a busted water line and I hope it didnt come from that! I told my wife that it was a parasite that crawled in your ear and eats your brain. She said that I must already have one.

I have never heard of anything like that either. When I picked it up I was expecting a worm but it was firm to the touch and freaked me out and all I could think of was to kill it.
