Has anyone found increased hunting success by using moon phases? If so how did you determine the correct times? It may be that it doesn't make a difference but just interested to know your thoughts.

Moon Phases. Do they work?

From my experiece, it doesn't matter what phase the moon is in. It depends on the position of the moon above or below the earth. When the moon is directly over or under the earth is when I have notice the most movement. Most people like to hunt a new moon because they think deer will move better while it is dark at night. I like to try to plan my hunts according to where the moon will be overhead. The best time to hunt is anytime you get a chance though.

I never really could tell a difference hunting based on the solunar tables. Plus, it wasn't like I wasn't going to hunt on the "bad" days if I was there. In our Texas season I see the most radical movement right before dramatic weather changes. I've been known to pack up, take off work, and hook it south the day before a big norther hits, especially if it looks like it will be a wet one. That last 6 hour window before it hits can be unbelievable no matter what the solunar table says.

It works...
and our observations from hunting mule deer in West Texas showed that when the moon came up early, we saw more bucks. To prove the point December 6, 20-04 I killed a 26" in wide 8 point and the moon came up @ 3PM. December 2007 I killed a 29" wide 8 point and the moon came up around 3 PM. I'm sold on it and can't wait for this year.

When I was hunting furs hard and heavy I planned to do most of my hunting the first hour the moon was rising and the last hour the moon was setting, saw lot of deer then also, and like Sabrekiller said I seemed to see more bigger buck at those times also. You also need to factor in weather, rut phase, hunting pressure etc., etc. .
