    Rolling Black Out Notice

I got this at work in Houston-

We have received word that the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ECROT) has ordered rolling blackouts during the arctic blast in the ERCOT Region which includes Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, Abilene and the Rio Grande Valley. The agency said the blackouts are needed to compensate for a generation shortage due to numerous plant trips that have occurred because of the extreme weather. The blackouts will last 10 to 45 minutes per neighborhood. The locations and durations of the blackouts will be determined by local utilities. ERCOT said it is not certain how long the blackouts will be needed.

Wow. Glad that I didn't see Lubbock on that list. Sorry to hear it for you folks that are going to be affected.

The last time ERCOT got in this kind of shape was '89 and the grid came dangerously close to a total blackout. System frequency reached all time lows as power plants froze up and tripped off-line. We don't want a statewide blackout.....the restart of froze up power plants takes a lot of time. Best thing for folks to do is conserve at home and at work. If you aren't using it, shut it off. Drop the thermostat a few degrees and put more clothes on.

You're actually on a different grid in the panhandle than the rest of Tx

Not to mention de-energized lines will collect more ice resulting in further outages.

Lost my power this morning for a while, didn't know about the blackouts, so I was draining the waterlines in the house, building a fire,... then the power came back on.

We are experiencing the rolling blackouts as well, however I thought they would spread them further apart time wise. The first shutdown was at 0715hrs and was out for 45 minutes, the next one was @ 0930hrs. and only 20 minutes long.

Our here in Katy lasted about 20 Minutes. Hitting "save" every minute or so on my excel spreadsheet in case it happens again. "I'm assuming "rolling" blackouts mean there will be a second round Correct?
