Back then it was practical, but today's square-toe craze seems pretty trendy. They do look kind of silly, IMO.
Bling-bling belts? They don't even look right on women, much less men.

They had square toes and low heels for comfort when walking, unlike the narrow/pointed, high-heeled boots that were called work boots, or riding boots, and more suited for swapping out horses throughout the day (the narrow or pointed toe helped you find a stirrup if a colt broke in two as you were swinging a leg over and the high heels kept you from pushing a foot through a stirrup).

They will likely go the way of silver-laced belts and Justin Ropers. And it's not like anyone sees a guy with square-toe boots, blingy belt, flat-brimmed cap, and untucked shirt (except right in the front to show off that store-bought buckle), plus designer blue jeans, and assumes they just spent the last 12 days riding heifers at the four 6's.
But, hey, if you're twentysomething and trying to get some sorority chick in the horizontal position you do what you have to. It'll just be replaced by something else.

Then what?
Generalizations are never accurate.
You did, however, nail mitchbcs - less the sorority girl part. Hey Ronnie!!!

To me, the square toes are just more comfortable on my feet. I wear them everyhwere, not just to the store or bar. And yes, I think they look good as well, why else would I buy them.

Gonna go into town (Austin) this evening and see if Cavender's has some of those AB round toes.
Maybe I can go with the green, it is my lucky color and I'd like to wear them at the poker table in Vegas.
Probably why I don't like or need the square toes, been married for 15 years and sorority girls think I could be their dad. Like some have said, I don't blame the young'uns for wearing them if that's what it takes these days.
