my pse mini g for bow fishing

thinking bout doing should i get somthing cheaper and should i use the ams gear for it or the simple stuff

    #2
AMS reals are about as idiot proof as you can get other than just a cheap old reel.

I am not a fan of useing any bow that has to be fully drawn for bowfishing.......... way to many snap shots at half draw IMO.

I would look into a cheap recurve or a compound designed for bowfishing.

The AMS are great, but not the quickest retrieve. Definately the best to prevent snapback. Go for it, I set up a hoyt xtec with a bowfishing rig and it worked great. . .a little too strong, shot completely thru most carp. I'll be buying a cheapie recurve like a PSE kingfisher this spring

How about one of the Genesis bows for bowfishing? What would you guys recommend for that? AMS or what about those "cajun" ones that are $20.

I'm sure it would work, but I'd want more umph. With those heavy fiberglass arrows, it usually takes 45lbs or so to get them flying decently. Matthews or PSE makes a bowfishing bow (barracuda I believe) that is basically a heavier version of the genesis (no DL restriction)

genisis bows are great bowfishing bows and ams is idiot proof basicly and the snap back crap on a spinner reel or zebco is crap it will not snap back the line will snap or break. u can argue if u want but bowfishing is my other passion besides bowhunting and there are videos on youtube that proves line will just break. just my 2 cents

Say what you want, but I have been part of a couple snapbacks with zebcos. The issue isn't forgetting to push the button - then there is enough power to break the line , but if that line digs into itself (not all that uncommon reeling in a heavy fish with a zebco), it can and will snap back. We quit using them for just that reason.

Bass Pro and Cabela's both have a bowfishing bow that comes with everything you need, (minus the arrows). Was thinking about getting one myself, until I bought a AR.

its not the genesis that everyone is useing, the genesis only goes to 20 pounds. Its the ams fishhawk that they are using. It is a 40 pound bow and is designed to be able to shoot the snap shots that everyone is talking about and yes 70 percent of your shots will be like this. I have a friend that has a like new fishhawk for sale for 180 tyd they are about 250 new. as far as reels go ams is the best for a beginner, but a muzzy reel is hard to beat and i have taken 6+ foot gar and 60+ pound buffalo with a muzzy reel...if you use the 200 pound fastflight line it will not bury into itself like the other lines and still has plenty of strenght to land big fish...hope this helps. if you need more info pm me

Inexpensive (<40#) recurve and AMS, it's fool proof.

the fishhawk by the way is designed off the genesis, and almost looks identical.
