    F250 diesel problem?

This morning I was going 65mph and my trucks check engine light came on and the power just went to almost nothing. It will start and idle (rough) but no real power. What could it be? It's a 2001 with the 7.3.

Injectors. if you take in to the Ford house, be sure and pull the after market air cleaner out.Just in case you dusted a cylinder.

Don't take it to the dealer!

Camshaft Position Sensor. $20 part from Ford. Buy two and keep one in your glovebox. Easily changed by yourself.

My cam sensor has caused problems before, but the truck died and then would restart. I am afraid it is a fuel problem (I hope it's just the filter).

Injector wiring harness open or shorted under valve cover

The CSP can cause this. Most common problem. Have the codes pulled if you can. I have 400k miles on my 97' 7.3, and have probably replaced the CSP 6 or 7 times. For what it cost I would start with that, if it's not it keep the old one in the glove box.

How many miles on the engine?

Errr, I'm drawing a blank on his name, but there is a Ford diesel wrench on board that has a shop in Haslet I believe. Let me see if I can find his name.

Yep, start with the CSP. Had an '02 that would just die going down the street, fire up a little while later (usually). Went through a couple of them while I had the truck.

                            Both are VERY good possibilities...

Typically the tach will not work with the bad CPS. Also it dies, and won't re-start. Put an extra in glove box.
CPS is simple to change. Just a 10mm bolt, Looks like this, located on pass/front of motor,

Been there done that too. Actually the plug connector on mine melted and shorted-out once. It ran like it was working on 4-cylinders.

The valve cover has the injector wiring embedded into it.
They also make a connector repair kit so you don't have to by a $500 total engine harness.

Check out the harness and connectors and let me know if you want the P/n for the repair kit. I'll dig it out. Heck I only changed ONE plug (of the 4) and have 3 extra plugs and a valve cover gasket too I'll send ya if it comes to that. (I'm in Flower Mound, just up the road)
I got rid of the 7.3 unfortunately.

I have an '02 7.3 that had very similar symptoms. Rough idle. Mine was hard to start, would run but sounded rough, low power, and blew black smoke every time I hit the accelerator. Mine was the ICP sensor.
