I have started looking into getting me an .223 AR. I was just wondering what would be a good starter. I really don't need one just want one, like most toys that I have. I would probably shoot targets, hogs & what ever else looks like it needs to be shot. I really think it would be fun to take to the practice range. I looked at a DPMS AR-15 today and it seemed to be good for the price $799.99. The guy behind the counter said that he had heard nothing but good things about them & has not had any come back with problems. So, I guess my question is, what do you think about the DPMS and if you were going to buy an entry level AR what brand would you buy and where would you buy it at? I live in North East Texas in the Mt. Vernon area, if that helps... Thanks for all the help...

gotta disagree. no problems with my bushmaster over the past 3 years, shoots to about 2" at 100 yds with an eotech.
The fun in an AR is putting one together. get any stripped lower and a quality parts kit and then go on the hunt for a good upper. I bought a complete LMT 16" upper a while back for $400. You could easily build a very high quality AR for under $1000 as opposed to buying a basic entry level rifle for $8-900

Go to bravocompanyusa.com. same quality and military spec as the Colt. You can easily pick a lower and upper within your budget and get a much higher quality base weapon than if you go with some midlevel brand loaded with accessories. You can always get quadrails and doo dads later
Go to Ar15.Com and the Black Rifle forum on glocktalk.com and you'll read plenty of stories of Bravo Company rifles going several thousand rounds without a malfunction. There's a tactical training school that put 20,000 through one, never cleaned it, and never had a single malfunction. I have 2000 in mine and it has never run other than like a greased monkey on fire.
...on Earth, as it is in Texas
