Question for all the EMT's and Paramedics

Have you heard of TrainingDivision.com? If so, what are your thoughts? I am currently working as a Systems Engineer with a military contract company and it is a great job, but I work on a year to year contract and I feel this train maybe coming to a halt. So, I was looking for something I could fall back on if needed!! I have a inside contact at a major hospital in the area, so I could work a Tech if need be! Just looking for some thoughts from the peanut gallery!! Thanx in advance!!!

For a working man, training division is a good option. However, there are several fire departments that I am aware of that will not hire people that took an online academy. The lack of hands on time and traditional academy experience is the main reason. A traditional academy usually prepares the recruit for life in a firehouse and how to handle the daily life. The young people that don't have much life experience are the ones most places have issues with. If its the best option for you, dive into it.

My last dept sent a group there for fire academy and paramedic school, and they were not impress and didn't have a lot of postive things to say about them. Kilgore has a good program i've herd for fire academy, i took my arson investigator with ronnie who is the cord there.

It would be a good idea to take any EMS or Fire training courses through a college so you get college credit for them in case you want use them toward a degree at some point. It may also make it easier to get financial assitance if you are considering pursuing that. Your location says Fort Worth, if that is correct you ahve multiple options for EMS trianing for sure.

Training Division is so/so for the fire side of things. We sent a group to TD a while back and they all turned out to be good firefighters, BUT they went through the online classes after getting hired on, did all their work at our training center with the training officer there to assist them, force them to do PT, hands on training etc. They did course work Mon/Wed/Fri and hands on Tues/Thurs if I'm not mistaken. As far as EMT/Medic, I would RUN not walk from Training Division. If you're a self motivated person, you MIGHT learn enough to pass the National Registry. A college classroom is a MUCH better place to learn EMS topics and skills. I'm currently enrolled with Training Division for my Arson Investigator and it's just okay. Cheap, yeah. A good learning environment for guys with other commitments, not really.

Ditto what others said concerning online fire or ems courses. Most colleges that have emt/medic courses offer a night class for those that work full time. The class time is usually longer but you get good instruction and preparation for the national registry. If you are in the fort worth area, tarrant county college offers a emt and paramedic program. I teach at the fire academy at Navarro College in Waxahachie. They offer day and night emt and paramedic. Good luck to you whatever you decide to do.

Check this page out fro mthe DSHS website: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/emstraum...Percentage.pdf
It lists the NR pass rates for all education programs, by level of certification being sought. It might be helpful in making your decision. Here is the homepage for the website: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/emstraum...s/default.shtm , it will also be helpful. PM me if you like.
