If you deal with Cabelas on-line, watch your account.

My last purchase from Cabela's was November 15th.

Yesterday they charged my bank account $14.25.

I called and checked with "customer service" about the charge and they informed me that they had made a mistake and were now charging me to make up for it.

I asked them for an explanation and was told it was a "computer malfunction". Really?

I was then told I would get a generalized letter in the mail at some point. (but not before they hit my account for the money!)

If I owed the money I do not have a problem paying it, at the time of purchase I had used a coupon, cabelas bucks, and had a return associated with the purchase.
I would at least expect an invoice explaining the problem and a bill, not for them to directly charge my account without my authorization 2 1/2 months after my purchase!

Needless to say, their explanation was insufficient for me, their "customer service" stinks, and I am done dealing with them as far as I can see. I have requested that both my wife's account and mine be cancelled (online accounts- not charge cards).

I don't make a purchase unless I have the funds in my account, I don't give companies free rein to just go charge my account when they feel like it.

I'm always worried that this is going to happen to me. I hope that letter explains it better.

Dispute the charge through your bank or credit card company.

That would raise a single finger from me too.

Do this, because if you didnt authorize the charge with your signature then its the same as stealing!

I was trying to figure out the bill last night and I think they did screw up, I remember calling in December with problems with that order, when the customer service rep was going through things I stopped him and told him it didn't add up and he assured everything was fine. I suspect they did screw up and I should have paid it back then. That was not the reason for me being upset, the automatic draft from my checking account is what ticked me off--without my knowledge.

What if I was paycheck to paycheck and that caused something to bounce?

I would do this.. I had a small business and took credit cards. When some disputed a charge I was charged a $25 dispute fee. So who knows.

That was one reason I decided to post up about this, hopefully at least people won't be as blindsided as I was.

was just informed by my bank that they can not dispute any charge under $30, so that takes that away even if I wanted to.

You might want to reconsider banks as well...
