Saturday evening I had the great pleasure of sharing the pop up with my wife Kelly. I have always been invious of guys who have wives that will go sit in the stand with them. Kelly does not come from a hunting family and does not hunt, but she does have enough love and respect for me to step out of her comfort zone and go with me to experience what I get soo excited about. For that I am very thankfull! After about 45 minutes of sitting there with nothing moving we had two small bucks come in to feed and they stayed for about 30 minutes or so. Right before a large hog came in and spooked the bucks off we had the opportunity to hear a sound that I have always wanted to hear in the wild. I have heard for years people talking about and giving the snort-wheeze call on TV shows, but had never actually heard a deer give one before. The larger of the two bucks staggered sideways with his ears laid back right up to the smaller buck and gave the snort-wheeze to em'. I loved it! It was one of those moments that makes the outdoors so special to me. I'm sure my wife was in shock that I was so excited over hearing that little buck give a snort-wheeze. Soon after that the largest pig I have ever had the opportunity to take a shot at with a bow showed up and Kelly became my ranging buddy. Everytime he would take a step she would click the button on the rangefinder and tell me how far he was. I took my shot at dark and never found that arrow or blood so we packed up and headed back to the ranch house. Needless to say this was one of my most, if not the most, special hunt to me so far in my life. It was great to have her there to talk to while nothing was moving and even better to be able to share with her the outdoors that I love so much!

Great write up! My wife has never been out in the field with me. She always seemed to prefer the comfort of home. That was fine with we. I always invite her and let her know she is welcome to come along. Yesterday she suprised me by asking for a bow for Chrismas!I think Christmas will come early this year!!
Congrats on having a wife that will accompany you into a blind. She may never love it the way you do, but she will have fun and bring the two of you closer together.

The culling was a pretty tough this early in the season. We usually do it towards the end of the season when there is 150 deer on the wheatfeilds in the afternoons so taking 25 deer in a day is not a chore at all, but we found out that when it is this early it is tough to round up that many does. We ended up taking 4 does and a spike saturday. I shot a does saturday morning at 18 yards and one of the other guys shot 3 does saturday morning. One more spike bit the dust saturday evening and that was it. Needless to say I think well have to have two or three rounds of mangement hunts this year to get the numbers killed that we need gone.

That's awesome!! My wife of 12 years also just started going with me two weeks ago. Initially she took the camera she got last year and wanted to take photo's of wildlife while my 4 year old daughter sat with her in the blind. This past weekend I was shocked to hear her ask me if she could carry a gun just in case a pig came out. She said she never thought she'd like sitting in a deer stand but realized she loves it. The best part of the whole deal was I took my first ever deer with a bow this past Saturday evening with my entire family (wife, son and daughter) all hunting with me. Sorry to hijack your thread Codie, I can relate 100% to the pleasure of having your wife take an interest in something you consider to be so special.
