    minimum lethal poundage???

I just upgraded my daughters diamond edge to 4o lbs. Maxed out it pulls 43. I have it set at about 36 lbs right now and am pretty surprised at the speed and accuracy for such a light draw weight.

What do you guys think her target weight should be for hunting this coming up season?

The higher the better. My son killed a deer a couple years back with a bow drawing around 38pounds. He never got a pass through though. 43 would be lethal I am sure.

40#'s was the minimum in TX until it was completely dropped. With todays compounds, what she is shooting should be good enough. Best thing to do would be to have her shoot a good COC broadhead.

She will be shooting 85 grain or 100 grain buzzcuts. Should I go with 85 or 100?

I would go with the 85. She is pulling enough now to kill things.

I would say she is in a good range, I usually say 40lbs with an 85 grain head. Just make sure its a sharp cut on contact broadhead.

Keep her practicing to the max weight. She will kill at 36# but do even better at the max the bow will go. I shoot 45-47# and use 100 grain buzzcuts and muzzy's. As long as wht she is shooting at is at 20 yds or less, she'll get a pass thru and a kill. Any further and it won't be a pass thru and will be very dependent as to the arrow placement and continued cutting when the animal runs.
Also depends on what she is shooting at. Deer have thin skin. Hogs much thicker. To be ready for deer season next fall, keep her shooting every couple days and she will be at maxe weight with the bow by then and neither deer nor hogs will be safe. Not to mention a yote should one walk in front of her!!!!!
              Good luck young lady!!!!!

My son wacked a small hog "15-20lbs" with a 30lb draw 85g5 broadhead I did not think he even hit the pig until we got down arrow went through and was covered in blood pig was dead as dead could be. its amazing what 30lbs pushing a razor blade can do.

36lbs is more then enough with a good coc head. I like the wasp stingers with the bleeders.

My daughter shot a white tail with 28# you need to limit the yardage for both penetration and higher rate of success. We maxed her at 10yds so she had more room for error. You just want a new kid to feel disappointment. Set him up to succeed.
If you go to huntingfootage.com you can search McKenzie's first deer hunt (or something like that) and watch it. The BH popped out the other side.

Main thing on her first deer is hunt out of a pop up and corn her shooting lanes at 10-12 yards max. Good Luck young lady

It's not so much about the poundage as it is the kinetic energy. For best results build several arrows and shoot them through the bow at her most comfortable draw weight. Get the arrow speeds and determine the best arrow setup for maximum kinetic energy where she is comfortable drawing.

She has enough DRAW weight to kill a deer, but you should focus on ARROW weight. That bow is probably spitting arrows out with about the same KE as alot of trad setups in the high 40's, low 50's, BUT learn something from the trad guys, go with a heavier arrow than you would ever think of putting on that bow. I would also look for a heavier broadhead to get more front of center (helps with penetration).

Most compound guys will say you'll be fine with a 350 gr arrow, but honestly, I'd be looking for something in the 500-600 gr range. There will be more arch to that arrow, but assuming you limit her to under 20 yrds, you won't notice that much difference.

Somewhat of a myth. Momentum's really the key to penetration. You could put a wide range weight arrows on that bow and KE wouldn't change significantly because the energy coming out of the bow doesn't change (that's what KE measures)- Momentum however will change alot.
