    Sako Question

How can I tell if the Sako I bought is pre Garcia? It doenst have a bofors barrel. It is in the 110,000 and some change range. It is a deluxe with i think an antelope on the plate. It has an older redfield tv style scope on it. Any idea on worth? these things are all over the place. I dont have a book and cant find any definitive info online.

Look under the barrel in front of the forearm. It will be stamped with the Abu Garcia info.

Casey is spot on ..... look in front of forearm , under barrel for import markings .. "Imported by Garcia"

FYI - Sako rifles were sold direct from the manufacturer to retailers prior to Garcia becoming the sole importer in 1972. Post Garcia barrels are stamped as noted above. Pre-Garcia's draw a premimum in value for being unmarked, usually adding about 25% to the worth.

Pre-Garcia Sako rifles have a magnificent high polished Blue, extremely fine fit and finish overall, and most are stocked with some very beautiful pieces of wood. They are High Quality and shoot very well as many of these actions had adjustable triggers.

It is a forester and it doesnt say anything about Garcia Imported. So I should keep it? What do you think it is worth?
