Thumb release ? Pros and Cons

I am thinking about giving the thumb release a try. I had a situation happen this year where I think it would benefit me. What are y'alls experiences with them. Any suggestions on which one to try. I don't what a high end one. Just a good one.

I use a Tru Ball I got for about $75 bucks. I like it cause I can just leave it on my bowstring when hunting till I'm ready to shoot. The main reason I tried one is I would trigger punch bad. For some reason a thumb release relaxed me and I have a smoother release

I switched to a Tru-Fire and love it. No smelly wrist strap to deal with and I don't seem to click it like I did a wrist strap when I get bored.

This as well. My groups have shrank tremindously since i have started shooting a thumb release. It is a little akward at first and i suggest you shoot a couple at a shop before you buy.there are several out there that are around 70 80 bucks. i just traded a scott for a tru fire ,its a push fire instead of the thumb pull and ...man its nice.Give it a try

I tried one for a while, and it just wasn't for me. Went back to my wrist release (Carter 2 Shot) and I am much more comfortable.

if your a trigger puncher its not for you, the only way to properly shoot a thumb release is a suprise back tension style shot sequence. unless your tim gillingham but i wont get into that. give a carter target 3 a try

I hunt with a Spot hogg - Saturday Night Special.

I leave it clipped on the d-loop, when hunting...It's out of the way and ready to go. For me, I have a more consistent anchor point with a T-handle release.

Gotta love the preset factor with a thumb release. I too like the fact it is attached to the loop and ready to fire.

I started out with a thumb release when I switched from fingers years ago, then for years shot a finger trigger/ wrist strap, started to punch too bad, so switched back to thumb release. Works better for me. When I am stand hunting, I clip it to my string so it's ready to go. When spot and stalk hunting, I do not. I have a string attached to mine to make a loop so it can hang on my wrist. I found myself dropping the release (lost it twice) to grab another arrow on fast paced hog hunts, so I put the string on it so I would not just drop it... I shoot a Carter Chocolate-Lite... I like it becasue it is adjustable in about every way imaginable, but it is kinda pricey...

Use a Tru-Fire 3D Hunter with a lanyard attached to it worn around my neck. Keeps me from losing it and when I get to the tree it unclips from the lanyard and stays on the d-loop ready for battle. Much more consistent anchor point and quicker finding my anchor point each draw. Didn't like the big round piece on the trigger so it had to go but other than that it has performed flawlessly. Hated having that strap on my wrist for days at a time!!!

Switched to a T-handle Carter Something this past season and love it. Shot wrist releases for over 20 years before the switch. I'm not going back to the wrist strap again and I shoot 3D archery better as well with the T-handle type release.

I switched to a thumb release Shayne and I won't go back to a wrist strap index finger release. No cons for me only pros. I have two Carter Chocolate Lites....one for back up in my pack in case I drop my primary one. I love having it clipped on my loop from the time I crawl into the stand until I get out. Like Saltwaterslick said, Carter's are pricey but if you watch AT and Ebay you can pick one up used for a good price. I highly recommend them!
