TBH Rifle Scope Braintrust - Need Help Finding A New Scope!

If you happened to see my Ruger .270 restoration thread, I ended up putting a cheap ($89.00) BSA 3x9 scope on it. I had to buy High bases for it since it had a 50mm objective (1" tube), so I have these already.

After this weekend hunting with it, I realized I NEED a better scope! Low light transmission and eye relief is just OK and no AO adjustment.

I am looking to stay under $150.00 and my buddy swears up and down and sideways about the Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x 50mm. He had an $1100 scope on the rifle he was hunting with and says he has 2 of them on his other rifles and LOVES them! he claims they are the best bang for thbuck out there.

He sent me this link where they are on sale for $109.00 from $249.00 at Midway!!

Any one have any experience with this scope? Please talk me out of this if you have any better deals or reccommendations for me! Vortex? Burris??

    What should I get?

Natchez Shooting supplies usually has a good deal on them. You may want to watch them. They are good scopes for the money, but just like any other cheap scope, it is hit and miss on if you get a good one or not.

I have a couple that are good and I have one that I think is not so good. I am not able to get the rifle sited in with it. I have not had a chance to put another scope on it and go to the range to check. Just an FYI.

Yes! I have one I took of a 22-250 that I'll sell TYD for $55. It is OK, but nothing compared to my 4200, but it cost 1/4 as much(bought from SWFA for about same$). My groups went from 1 1/2" to 5/8 just replacing the scope.

I see where you can get a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 for $189 at swfa. I know the Crossfire line of Vortex is about 50 cheaper than the Diamondback.

When i compared a 3-9x50 Whitetail classic to my Vortex diaomondback 3-9x40, the Simmons had a yellow tint to the site picture. Not as clear as the vortex either.

Yes serious, but need to check on obj size. I was just going to put it on a 22, but the objective was too big. It is just setting on the shelf, so someone might as well have it to use, unlikely that I will.

Good timing, I just found this link ranking scopes by brand. Check it out.

In a $150 scope, as long as you don't plan to be wowed, you won't be disappointed.

I guess I should give you a little more info..

This will be a transitional/temporary scope. I have a few more projects that I need to put money in right now, so I wanted to get a BETTER scope than I have now, but I do plan on spending $400-$600 on a nice one in the near future.

Just looking for the best value and performance package for around $150 for now.

If that is the case then I wouldn't change right now. Sink the $150 into your other projects. Then save a little more and go get what you want before next hunting season.

that's just me though (I find myself in those spots a few times)

I see where you're comin' from, but no, after this weekend with the BSA, I need to at least get a decent scope before I go down again for does before month end, or down for hogs and javis next month.

I wear glasses and the eye relief part was no fun

x2. The glass is often times more important than the rifle. I would just wait. Good glass can't be beat!
