    Laptop battery question.

I have a couple questions about laptop batteries. First of all is there someplace ya'll buy replacement batteries for your laptop than you trust. I could go through dell for $149 but see other places for 49 to 75 dollars. Any advise is appreciated.
Second--- mine shows 41wh and Ive seen some thats 48wh- Whats the difference?

Batteries Plus is who I use. I know a few people that have bought them on Amazon with good luck.

Your second question is beyond my realm of insight

Most batteries are labeled with a capacity in maH (milliamperes per hour). This is a measure of the current the battery can supply for one hour. Example: if a battery is labeled 3000 maH, it can supply 3000 mA or 3AH (amperes per hour). If the system were consuming 1500 ma per hour, the battery would last for two hours.

wH stands for watts per hour. Watts are amps multiplied by volts.

Forgot to answer the question of where. I have bought from online stores and saved quite a bit and never had any issues. Have used at least 2 different sites but don't remember them. Buy new and you s/b OK.

I just ordered a new battery and charger on Amazon. Shipped today. I paid $28 for both. I will let you know next week, if you can wait. They said new Dell.

I bought one off eBay almost 2 years ago. They have replaced it (free) several times. We are now on our 3rd battery from them in less than 2 years.
Another question, is it better to use your laptop off the charger (running it down often and recharging) or keep it on the charger and only take it off when needed for portability?

Read my post above. wH is watt hours. How many watts the battery can produce per hour. If you need a 14V battery and 1 is 41wH and the other is 56wH the 56wH will last longer between charges.

Most batteries these days are OK either way. My wife leaves hers in most of the time and it still works great and mine sometimes goes low before charge and sometimes not. And it still holds a charge for a long time.

Mike I thought I had read your post, I guess just didnt fully understand if it still allowed them to be interchangable.

                      Yes
They will "hold" a charge longer. That's what I have on my Dell laptop is a larger mAH (or wH). Still same voltage just last longer.
