    Communication +++++++++

    Michael,

    Thanks for the communication before/during/after the move. I know it's not required, but very good for your members. Thank you!

        Thanks, Jeff. The goal was to keep the old server up until we got complete functionality on the new server. Once we began moving the database, we certainly didn't want to turn the forum back on, but we (Chuck) set it up so that members could view existing posts without adding posts. We figured if we weren't up on the new server by the end of the weekend, we could simply turn the posting permissions back on and tackle it again later in the week or next weekend.

        Unfortunately, the database issues during the backup led to problems on the old server, first with the Apache service (that runs the web server) and then the msql service (that runs the database). That put us under the gun to get EITHER the old server or the new server functional. In fact, Chuck got the old server back online literally only a few minutes (the time it took me to drive the three miles from my office to my house) before Chris/Nick got the database restored on the new server and I was able to point to it and turn it back on!

        As you may have seen, we had the empty forum functional while the database was being uploaded and restored, so once we made the DNS changes, we went ahead and used that forum to post limited information to those members that started getting the updated DNS information. At the same time, I figured it would give some of y'all a partial "fix" to feed your addiction!

        I'm glad it proved beneficial.

          The funniest part was that by the time I changed the DNS entry, turned on the empty forum and posted the update, there were already 7 users online...AT 2 AM this morning!!!

            Folks love this place. Can you imagine if it were a place we could go physically? Actually sit by the camp fire? Wow!
