    Tree stand safety.

I bought a 2 man ladder stand and after watching the safety video and trying to use the 276 point harness...I just gave up.

I know a lot of people take this issue very seriously and this thread is not meant to make anyone mad.

I just want to know why they can not make a simple harness. It's most likely because of lawsuits and everything political. Like in the video when they say.."Never leave any tree stand up for more than 2 weeks" LOL ok.. I will take it down and re set up 2 times per month. And "never hunt in a tree stand in inclement weather that includes..snow, sleet, rain, or windy conditions"

This thread is just more of a rant than anything else.

get yourself a Hunters safety system they are worth every penny...when i have mine on i cant even tell its there and i know I will be going home to my boys, if i wear it properly, and check all straps everytime you get in the stand.

Yeah, the generic "bundle of straps" that come with a tree stand are pretty aggravating. I use a vest type.

Vest type is only way to go. Fast, easy, simple!

I've forgotten it a couple of times and went straight back to camp and got it. I won't hunt without it and if I hear of any of my kids hunting without one, I'll beat 'em!

I tend to set my chain ons in some twisted, bent, gnarly trees. I can't sit or stand level, ever, and in those I wear a 276 point harness religiously. From a 15' ladder stand, I'm not so fussy.

Those harnesses have a limited lifetime. Mine was 5 years by the tag, last year was #6. Guess I'll be in the market for a new one next year.

They are a fuss to use but I wont be in a tree stand without mine. You hear too many bad stories about folks that fell from a stand and didnt make it home.

Usually I'm in a 15' ladder stand. And by far the highest odds of me falling from it is climbimg down or going up so I do not see what good the harness would do.

And no. I did not buy a harness. It came with the stand.

I need one I can repel down the tree with so I can get down faster LOL

Check out the new Gorilla harness. It is awesome. I am deathly afraid of heights and wouldn't go up in a tree without a harness. Late October/Early November I put up a treestand in a new area. I did a ton of research and ended up "trying on" several harnesses. I believe that the Gorilla harness is the best on the market at this time AND it is easy to get on.

@RR you should get a life line to go with your ladder stand. Dont believe me, just PM MRS. Hc and ask if she thinks it would have been a good idea to have one one in her ladder stand. The ones that come with the stands are decent, and will go on if you understand how to unfold it. There are MUCH better ones on the market and the only excuse for not wearing one is pure arrogance IMO. You can fall at any time without warning, and it only takes once for it to matter for a very long time.

And the scariest one of them all:

You can also look into industrial grade body harnesses.

Brands such as Protecta, Sala, Miller, MSA....

They are not cheap, but they will do the job.
