Have not been able to time up the weather just right as we have had fishing trip conflicts with work and hunting LOL. But we have had some fun trips as of late and I wanted to share. We have been fishing out of our home turf in POC and I have made 1 or two trips to matagorda. As for the big girls, its been slow this winter, mainly due to lack of time on the water but my buddy chuck with CCR's pulled out a 9lber in matty when him and I went out with Ken Sabin in Matty for a quick trip. havent cracked the 8lb mark in POC this winter but I had 1 just over 28" and 7.5 lbs in POC several weeks back. Here is a recap of the last few trips:
MLK Day, yesterday, had our 3 man limits of reds in POC on paddle tails isolating drains on heavy falling tide in the morning, with reds in the 22-26 inch range on every cast until we got tired of catching reds. switched gears and hit the lakes for the trout with the same approach using corky floaters and tails on interior drains and incoming tide. Ended up with 15 trout in the box and a kicker flatty but we caught atleast 30-40 in the 15" range that were just too close to call so we released them. Fun day on the water.
5 lb class trout on topwater (bone/chart skitterwalk) fishing grass line on falling tide. Released.
28" 7 lb class trout on chrome spook jr fishing back lakes in POC when when slacked off and changed direction just before an incoming front. Also caught 4-5 in the 4lb class on tops and corkies this day.
full 3 man limits trout and reds in POC on tails and corkies in back lakes pre front. (few trout fell to the cleaning table before pics)
2 man full limits of trout, short 1 red. 2 days after front fishing mud and shell with corkies and tails.
only warm weekend early winter. all on tops over solid mud.
quick afternoon wade during front, cold as heck! 2 short of 4 man limit. tops and corkies over mud and grass. no trout this day
Quick trip with buddies Chuck and Ken to East Matty several weeks ago fishing a drain with mixed shell and light mud post front. Chucks catch of the day, 9lb class hog taken to the taxi. 29.25". corky floater
Capt. Ken's 6lb class trout on suspending corky fat boy over mixed shell and mud.
Fishing has been a grind this winter and we havent been able to fish as much as normal/we would like, to but as always it has been a fun winter. Looking forward to chasing some big girls this Spring.
